All about Cygwin
Cygwin is a command line interface and Unix-like environment designed for the Microsoft Windows Operating System. Among other things, it enables users to natively integrate Windows applications and data with those of the Unix-like environment. This makes it possible to start Windows applications from within the Cygwin interface and vice-versa. This helps people avoid downtimes and technical problems from a wide range of compatibility issues.
Cygnus Solutions initially created Cygwin which later fell into the hands of Red Hat. Today, it is a free and open-source program offered under the GNU General Public License Agreement and maintained by Red Hat together with Netapp as well as hundreds of other competitors all over the world.
