I take it that the original quote was ironic since removing deprecated
code or mangling fields are not done to please the users of GTK+ but
are necessary steps to continue developing GTK+.
No one is suggesting breaking GTK+ for the benefit of application
developers. This is also the reason we aim to make the transition from
2.x to 3.x as pain free as humanly possible (everyone is well aware of
the pain involved in the transition from 1.x to 2x).
