Orphaned Kooka
I see that Kooka, the kdegraphics scanning application, has been moved out of
trunk due to the lack of a maintainer. Having finally acquired a scanner
that works under Linux, I've started to find this application (from 3.5) very
useful - obviously scanning support is available within other KDE apps, but
Kooka is a useful small and lightweight application to do just scanning.
There have been other comments on the dot (at the time it was removed from
trunk) to the same effect.
Obviously there is plenty of scope for improvements, and there are ~130 bugs
currently open for Kooka (of which some really belong to libkscan). I've
already fixed some of the problems that were showstoppers for me,
particularly to allow the use of network scanners that can't be autodetected,
and have some more ideas for improvements. I'd be willing to act as
maintainer for this application, and for the moment keep it in extragear.
Haven't even considered a port to KDE4 yet, but hopefully that will be
possible around 4.1 time.
Let me know what I have to do to get registered as maintainer and revive Kooka
back into extragear, and I'll start...
Regards, Jonathan
