Re: KDE3.3 & kdmrc/dmrc language settings

Oswald,

Thanks for getting back.

Master Plan:
   Single Kickstart Load & templates with ability to perhaps
   automate/script LANG/etc based on keyboard / region?
   Ability to either change LANG based on keyboard or some other method
   All application testing as been completed with the LANG & LC_* s set
   en_US. Doesn't look like the LC_ALL was ever set, it blank.
   i18N currently had SUPPORTED="en_US.UTF-8:en_US:en";
   SYSFONT="latarcyrheb-sun16"; LANG=en_US
   In terms of getting the KDE language translations installed, I'm not
   sure, but let's assume no for right. What would be involved if this
   became a requirement?
   Can we accomplish what we need without getting the language translations
   installed? By selecting the language via KDE login it creates the
   ~/.dmrc file which seems to be sufficient for say completing the
   language translations of the euro character? Or do we just change the
   SYSFONT above to really get this done?
   What other details are you looking for? I'm new at this & don't have
   all the foresight that you may have?

KDE Packages:
# rpm -qa | grep -i kde
kdelibs-3.3.1-3.14
kdeaddons-3.3.1-2
kdebase-3.3.1-5.13
kdemultimedia-3.3.1-2
lockdev-1.0.1-6.2
kdemultimedia-3.3.1-2
kdeartwork-3.3.1-2
lockdev-1.0.1-6.2
kdelibs-3.3.1-3.14
kdepim-3.3.1-2.1
kdegraphics-3.3.1-3.9
kdenetwork-3.3.1-2.3
kdebase-3.3.1-5.13
kdeutils-3.3.1-2
unixODBC-kde-2.2.11-1.RHEL4.1

What I'm afraid of and not unsure of is how the different setting will
affect the system, applications, users, etc. I don't want to modify
anything that may potentially cause other issue vs. the specified platform
in which testing was completed on.

- make sure the system is uniformly in utf8 mode (read unicode howto) -
  LC_ALL=en_US.utf8 should do it
- make sure the default fonts have glyphs for all needed alphabets
- x' initial keymap can be set in xorg.conf
- xkbset can change the keymap later
- kde can change the keymap via kxkb

i can help you with further details, but you need to provide a detailed
"master plan". in any case, read any docs relating to the above points
first.
