Depends a bit on the version of KDE you are using.
KDE from 3.4 on uses the freedesktop.org menu specification, earlier
version
use KDE internal locations.
Assuming the first, the directories used for searching for menu entries
can be
determined like this:
$ kde-config --path xdgdata-apps
The directories searched for menu structure files like this:
$ kde-config --path xdgconf-menu
The specification for the entry files can be found here
http://freedesktop.org/wiki/Standards_2fbasedir_2dspec
the specification for menu files here
http://freedesktop.org/wiki/Standards_2fmenu_2dspec
