[kde-linux] Send a key to an application

Hi, is there a method to send a key to a specific application?
If not, to the system so that the app with focus can get it?

I want to trigger the "play" button in audacity, via an external script. 
I can configure a Hotkey to do that, but the app does not have a Signal 
input to activate hotkeys...
