- Subject: [Mingw-msys] msys-1.0.dll v1.0.11 (20070927 vista64 patch) - problem startingmsys binaries
Hello all,
I'm running Windows Vista 32-bit on a Fujitsu-Siemens Intel Core2 T7200,
2.00GHz, 2GB RAM laptop and I'm having problems with running msys 1.0.11
binaries.
When running msys 1.0.10 sometimes, and this was not reproducible, I
could not
start msys sh.exe, make.exe or any other msys binary that depends on
msys-1.0.dll.
I would alywas get the following error:
C:\msys\1.0\bin> sh.exe
AllocationBase 0x0, BaseAddress 0x715B0000, RegionSize 0xE0000, State
0x10000
C:\msys\1.0\bin\sh.exe: *** Couldn't reserve space for cygwin's heap,
Win32 error 0
The error would sometimes go away after I reboot the windows, but not
every time,
meaning that sh.exe would start and I could run msys binaries.
Then I downloaded the new version of msys-1.0.dll (v1.0.11) with
workaround for vista
64 as stated in.

The 20070729 patch worked - I could start msys sh.exe and make.exe every
time.
My problem now is: I get the same heap error with msys-1.0.dll v1.0.11
(20070929 patch).
I did not install nor change anything on my system (as far as I can
recall).
Msys worked fine for a week or two, and all of a sudden I get the
following error
every time I try to start any of msys binaries. Tried to reboot but
error remains:
C:\msys\1.0\bin> sh.exe
0 [main] us 0 init_cheap: VirtualAlloc pointer is null, Win32
error 487
AllocationBase 0x0, BaseAddress 0x71110000, RegionSize 0x70000, State
0x10000
C:\msys\1.0\bin\sh.exe: *** Couldn't reserve space for cygwin's heap,
Win32 error 0
C:\msys\1.0\bin>.\make.exe
0 [main] us 0 init_cheap: VirtualAlloc pointer is null, Win32
error 487
AllocationBase 0x0, BaseAddress 0x71110000, RegionSize 0x70000, State
0x10000
C:\msys\1.0\bin\make.exe: *** Couldn't reserve space for cygwin's heap,
Win32 error 0
On another laptop (same manufacutrer, same model, same hardware) on msys
1.0.10
everything's working fine - sh.exe starts, make.exe starts, never had a
problem
nor a reason to upgrade to msys 1.0.11.
Did anyone else experience the same problem?
Any suggestions that might help?
Regards,
Mario Zagar
