Huh?  I've never had the slightest problem like this, with *any* version 
of GCC I've used, on any platform.  I think Earnie has hit the nail on 
its head: the OP has improperly installed MSYS and MinGW into the same 
prefix, in spite of the dire warnings in the READMEs, and on MinGWiki, 
telling him that he must not do this.
