- Subject: [Mingw-users] Ready to build g77 for Vista
Hi,
The subject line is a bit of an overstatement, but I've got to at least try
to get a g77.exe (for gcc-3.4.5) that works with Vista. My existing
gcc-3.4.5 (installed from available binaries) includes g77 - so, I believe
it's just a matter of creating a g77.exe (built for Vista) and slotting it
into my existing gcc-3.4.5 installation. After all, that's how it worked for
gcc.exe and g++.exe (though, iirc, a patched collect2.exe was also part of
the fix).
So .... I've pointed my browser at
https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=2435 - which, I hope
is the correct place to start. And, since I want only g77, I figure I'll
only need to download the following sources from that page:
1) gcc-core-3.4.5-20060117-1-src.tar.gz
2) gcc-g77-3.4.5-20060117-1-src.tar.gz
3) mingw-runtime-3.14-src.tar.gz
Does that mingw-runtime package incorporates the fix to cope with Vista's
_access() ?
Do I need any other source packages ?
In an earlier thread Brian Dessent reminded me that I need to build with
__USE_MINGW_ACCESS defined - so I'm aware of that.
But I still need some basic instructions on how to go about building. I have
a linux (mandrake-9.1) box and I have Cygwin on this Vista64 box. I would
prefer to build on the linux box - but I'm open to suggestions. I have
nagging suspicions (perhaps for no good reason) that Cygwin on Vista is
going to throw up issues that will be difficult for me to deal with. I'm not
a nix person at all (only barely a Windows person, for that matter), so it's
likely that I'll have "issues" on linux, too.
Anyway ... if someone could just confirm that I'm on the right track so far
(correcting as needed), and provide a link that tells me how to proceed with
the build ... then I'll get started. (That's when the *really* dumb
questions will start.)
Cheers,
Rob
