I used a program that shows the process tree (Process Explorer).
I did check COMSPEC when I found what was the command line from the
process inside windres:
"cmd /c D:\Msys\1.0\msys.bat /c gcc -E -xc -DRC_INVOKED
./src/main/win32/version.rc"
Indeed, the COMSPEC variable was different from the default value so
changed it back to %SystemRoot%\system32\cmd.exe.
After that, 'windres' worked correctly inside the windows shell, but not
inside msys.
So I uninstalled msys and binutils completely, reinstalled msys and
built binutils inside msys from source (2.18.50) configured only with
'--prefix=/mingw' (as I did previously).
Now windres works inside MSYS. Sometimes it pauses for a few seconds
before returning, but it works.
Thanks everyone and sorry for all the trouble, I must have done
something wrong when installing msys and/or binutils. :-\
Rafael
