MSYS provides its own version of make so that it works within the shell
environment. Unless you following the instructions for building an
MSYS application [1] then you should pick from the MSYS Technology
Preview[2] the new versions of applications.

Eli only knows make. He really doesn't know the ins and outs of how
MinGW uses it. Do note that you will have limited success with the
native version of make within the MSYS shell. In particular you will
be SOL if you want to kill the processes. CTRL-C isn't given to the
native sub-processes. You also stand a chance of locking the entire PC
because the MSYS shell looses it ability to control the processes since
a spawned process from a native application isn't controlled by MSYS.
