Actually your probably right Henry (Martinsville),
Pittsylvania(Danville), Rockingham County (Eden) and Caswell County
(Yanceyville) all have this unique speech. everyone not from the area
swears we all come from Alabama, or Georgia.
You really can't use Roanoke as a Guide. Roanoke is much more like
Richmond. Its a melting put and any of the Upper class are Transplanted
from Pa, De, NY, NJ, and on up north.
The escape from those areas to enjoy basically the same life but at much
cheaper Price. A $1 million apartment on middle of NYC , the equivalent
would cost maybe $350,000 in Roanoke. And you would end up going from
average joe to the Blue nose crowd.
Its only if you get out side of the big cities you hear how the true
folks that were born and will die here will talk.
