Of course, it is also possible to have set up your system to not
use a password. In that case when the username/password dialogue
comes up you leave the password blank and just click okay.
That's like committing suicide.
You don't ever want to not password protect your computer.
Why not? Is your computer going to commit seppuka if you don't use a
password?
If you take you computer with you. (most folks use Laptops now)
that means any one can look on your computer and do anything they want
without having to sign in.
When your at work or outside of your house you trust no one.
You're not using laptops, so your statement here doesn't support your
other one. How one installs programs and using security on mobile
computers are two completely different subjects.
On business laptops, I set a BIOS password, so before one has access to
the OS they have to get past it. That way most thieves will not take
the time to do what is necessary to get by it. Way too many laptops
aren't configured with Administrator passwords, and getting to the data
is usually pretty easy.
I've even had two laptops returned that were stolen because whoever
stole them couldn't figure out what to do with them. They had them for
over a month and the laptops were replaced, but it was too funny to have
them show up one day, undamaged and data intact.
I have and use a laptop, as well as Desktop and I use administrator
username and password. AS I said you trust no one. I I allow someone to
use Mu computer I boot up put in password and if anyone wants to use
SM, FF, or TB I have them password protected too.
That includes my broth, sister-in law, and nieces. If it some one else I
have them sit in a chair and watch when I go to a site they want to see.
Trust no one when it comes to computers. Anyone can screw one up in a
heart beat without intentions of doings so. Even if Mac are much safer
than a PC. If I had a PC I wouldn't even left my relatives operate the
computer. Just breathing on them wrong can cause all types of Virus and
malware.
