Re: [Spca50x-devs] no accepting address and /dev/video0

Thanks for your replies.

Michel: I have basically tried everything I
can think of by now. I have tried both USB sockets and there are no
other USB devices connected (only my wireless card is connected). I
tried to connect my USB external hard drive
which works fine but the camera wont work. I created manually
/dev/video* directories, with
       mknod /dev/video0 c 81 0
       mknod /dev/video1 c 81 1
       chmod a+rw /dev/video0
       ln -s /dev/video0 /dev/video
as root. But that did not help.

When I google the error message
kernel: usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address
usb 2-1: device not accepting address 58, error -71
it looks like a lot of people have had this error for many different
reasons, but I have not found a working fix for this. I have tried to
reinstall the spca5xx driver but that did not help. I have set the
permissions

I got this error when opening gnomemeeting (maybe this is relevant?):
Error while starting the listener
You will not be able to receive incoming calls. Please check that no
other program is already running on the port used by GnomeMeeting.

Might this (from linux-usb.org) be relevant:
A:In the 2.6.10 kernel the method of enumerating devices was changed
to follow a similar algorithm as Windows (while the standard allows
both many devices require the Windows method). It seems some devices
do not like this new method though. If you have started having a
problem since this kernel with some of your devices you might want to
use the option "old_scheme_first=y" with the usbcore module.

Finally, I am not sure that my /proc/bus/usb/devices file is showing
the correct info. It has three blocks of info even when no device is
connected to the computer. Should I perhaps delete all contents in
devices (but I am not sure how to do that, the file is probably
critical for running processes). The contents of devices is:

Thomas: I am not sure that the camera is already broken, I just
started using it, but I will test your thoery on Monday using Windows
and see if the camera works there.

Can you think of any more things to try. And can you recommend some
debug methods so I can look into this in more detail...

Thanks,
Bjorn.
