Hello again,
I did not reply to this for quite some time since I found a way to get around
my problem. The thing is, this webcam does work on my x86 laptop. However
when I sent the first mail the camera was plugged into my amd64 desktop right
in one of the four USB 2.0 ports on the motherboard. To see if it might have
been the motherboard itself not supplying sufficient power I also tried to
remove all USB devices except the keyboard as well as plugging the camera
into an external USB hub with an external power supply. None of this produced
anything but the example seen above.
When I tried to use the camera on my desktop again I used the kernel
2.6.16-gentoo-r2 as well as the gentoo driver ebuild titled spca5xx-20060402.
This produced the same output as above.
Is it possible that this is a problem directly related to the amd64
architecture? Might it even be that my particular motherboard just doesn't
like that particular camera? (It is an Asus A8N-SLI, by the way)
Thanks for taking the time to consider this issue!
Regards,
