[Spca50x-devs] Digital Dreams Epsilon 2.1 freezes my computer

Hi,

I am a proud owner of a Digital Dreams Epsilon 2.1 (not the 1.3).

The camera is working as a webcam and I can see the moving images, but only for either no second or a few moments, then it freezes my computer. Nothing is possible to be done then, not even switch to a console. Only reset is possible.

I have already opened my cam to look what chip is inside.
It is a Sunplus 533A chip. A label at the camera's bottom says "VQ 2210", so it seems like it is a ViewQuest compatible camera.

KDE infocentre tells me Vendor ID and product ID are 0x733/ 0x2211 and that it is a Digital Dreams camera, and the SPCA-driver tells me that it is a Jenoptic camera that appears to have the same ID numbers as my Digital Dreams Epsilon 2.1.

I have tried to find the FAQ what to do in my situation, but I could not find it. Can You give me the link to it?

I also have found that I ought to create an "oops" (just don't know yet how to do that), but as my computer freezes altogether without doing anything I'm not sure it will do any output that would help solving the problem.

My Linux is a Kanotix 2006-01 Cebit RC3 and the SPCA5 driver version installed is 2006-0301-1+1.

Can You give me a hint here?

Thanks in advance.

Snubbelfot.
