[Spca50x-devs] Problem with ZC0303 camera

Hello,

I'm trying to get a webcam to work with the spca5xx driver. The camera
is listed by lsusb as:

Bus 003 Device 002: ID 0ac8:303b Z-Star Microelectronics Corp. ZC0303 WebCam

I can compile the latest version of the driver (from
"spca5xx-20060501.tar.gz") with no problem, and loading it goes fine
too, at which point the light on the camera comes on.

However, when I try to read from the /dev/video0 device, the system
freezes instantly & completely. I'm unable to report any actual error
messages because the system doesn't have a chance to log any errors. I'm
pretty certain the problem isn't in my webcam program, it even hangs
when I try to "xxd /dev/video0".

Some system info:
ar@gre#6350/0:~$ uname -a
Linux greebo 2.6.16-2-k7 #2 Mon May 22 23:23:54 UTC 2006 i686 GNU/Linux

ar@gre#6351/0:~$ lspci | grep -i usb
00:02.0 USB Controller: nVidia Corporation nForce2 USB Controller (rev a4)
00:02.1 USB Controller: nVidia Corporation nForce2 USB Controller (rev a4)
00:02.2 USB Controller: nVidia Corporation nForce2 USB Controller (rev a4)

Could anyone help me get this camera to work?

Incidentally, the actual camera is this model:
http://www.techsolo.com/product/webcam/tca_4810/index.php

They advertise Linux support, but the included CD only contains a few
binary modules (the only 2.6 one being for 2.6.12) and the site refers
to http://sourceforge.net/projects/spca50x and
http://mxhaard.free.fr/download.html for linux drivers.
