The easiest solution for me (running Debian Unstable and compiling 
2.6.25 kernels myself) was to use the package gspca-source:

apt-get install gspca-source
cd /usr/src
bzip2 -dc gscpa.tar.bz2|tar -xvf /dev/fd/0
cd linux
# make-kpkg --initrd linux-image
## had already been run and not cleaned
make-kpkg modules-image
cd ..
dpkg -i gspca-modules-2.6.25*.deb

(Debian has package spca5xx-source but it is at version 20060501-2; 
gspca-source is at version 01.00.20-1)
