True, I had to reboot hard, too though I had some sound for 10 seconds or so.
But I still have to do the arecrod command trice. First time it always
complains about no space left on device (which one does it mean? ram, hd,
soundcard?). Second time it takes a few secs to abort on Input/output error
and then third time it works. I've the feeling it is not happy about changing
consoles then.

I noticed that too. I had alsa-lib-1.0.13 but with that my modem didn't go on-
hook anymore so I got back to 1.0.9 again, which so far worked flawlessly.
