The better is to generate patches against hg tree, at:
http://linuxtv.org/hg/v4l-dvb

This tree contains some backward compatibility code for compilation with 
older kernels that are automatically removed by some -git generation scripts.

I also update often the 'devel' branch on my -git tree, at:

http://www.kernel.org/git/?p=linux/kernel/git/mchehab/v4l-dvb.git

(currently, it is updated)
